“Happy if on the third day I have no pain everywhere!”

We are used to say: “like father, like son”. Nothing could better illustrate this motto than the Anghileris. In the ’90s, Antonio Anghileri, Eufrasio’s father, raced in the Dakar on a Gilera. More than 30 years later, his son will line up for the world’s biggest rally-raid. Eufrasio Anghileri has been competing in the Italian Motorally Championship for several years and last year he made his first appearance at the Rallye du Maroc. He finished P27, a performance that opened him the doors of the Dakar. He has finally decided to make it happen in 2023. For this new challenge, he will be supported by Simone Agazzi, RS Moto Racing manager and former Africa Eco Race winner. On top of that, Eufrasio’s uncle is Lorenzo Lorenzelli who raced twice in the Dakar in the late ’90s as a private rider on a Suzuki DR350. He fought against Dakar legends like the late Fabrizio Meoni.

“Motocross and enduro have been my passion since I was a child. The Dakar is the main event of the sport, both in rally and motocross. I have been watching the Dakar since I was a kid. It was a dream to reach such a level. Besides that, my uncle, Lorenzo Lorenzelli, raced in the Dakar for two years. He didn’t finish in the first year, but he did it on his second attempt. I think that along with my father, he gave me a bike when I was seven years old. So, I would say that they introduced me to it. My father also did the Dakar when it was still in Africa. It was great and the passion is still there. I did a few enduro races, just because at that age, that was the thing everyone was doing. When I found out that there was the Motorally Championship in Italy, I entered it. It is more like rally-raid in Africa in the desert. As soon as I had the opportunity, I did the Rallye du Maroc. It was the first race I did in the desert on an international level. Naturally, the following step is the Dakar. It would be a dream to finish the race. I have no idea of the level of the riders. In any case, I don’t have a specific target. It’s a completely different level. They are doing a different sport. I’ll be happy if on the third day I have no pain everywhere! I’ll take it day by day. I’ll try not to push too hard and get to the finish line.”
