FIR ISLAND — About 30 people gathered Friday afternoon to celebrate the reopening of the Skagit Wildlife Area’s Headquarters Unit.

The unit, which is also known as Wiley Slough, is on the lower south fork of the Skagit River and is popular for birdwatching, hunting and walking.
