A Holocaust survivor who lived through four concentration camps as a young boy will return to Auschwitz to mark 80 years since the liberation of one of the Nazi's most notorious concentration camps. Naftali Fürst, now 92, knows that he is one of very few Holocaust survivors still able to travel to Auschwitz, so it’s important for him to be present. These days, he is telling his story as many times as he can, taking part in documentaries and movies. He feels a responsibility to be the mouthpiece for the millions who were killed, especially after his granddaughter survived the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on her kibbutz.

Dozens of Palestinian women and teenagers were released from Israeli prisons this week as part of a deal between Israel and Hamas to pause the war in Gaza. Their elation at being free is tinged with sadness about the devastation in Gaza, as well as uncertainty about whether they could be detained again in the future. Nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners are to be released as part of a deal to halt the fighting for six weeks, free 33 hostages from Gaza, and increase fuel and aid deliveries to the territory. Under the terms of the ceasefire, the Palestinian prisoners released by Israel cannot be later rearrested on the same charges.
