As a 30-year, retired teacher in the Stanwood-Camano School District, I was shocked to read the statements of two school board members, the first being by Director Betsy Foster who voiced concerns about equity and diversity language in the Washington State School Directors’ Association advocating it be removed.

The second statement was by Director Steve King who said that “the majority of the school district’s resources should not go to kids who come from homes with parents struggling with addiction.” I am not sure if Director King said “majority” in the meeting, but if he did, he is very mistaken. Even if he used the word, “some,” he is still wrong.
